Frequently asked questions
Is Professional really free — and what's this "free for life" offer?
Yes. NetStacks Professional is free during the public beta, and every account created during the beta keeps Professional free for life — no card, no trial countdown, no upgrade prompt. New users who sign up after the beta ends pay $19/month or $199/year; anyone who joined during the beta stays free, forever.
Why do I check out to get it if it's free?
We use the same checkout flow as the paid plan, set to $0, so you receive a download link by email and we can keep a count of beta users. We do not bill you and we never ask for a card during the beta.
Is NetStacks open source?
The cryptography that protects your credentials and sessions is fully open source and independently auditable at github.com/netstacks/netstacks-crypto — the same crypto is used in every edition. The NetStacks application source itself is proprietary and is available to qualified customers under NDA.
Can I review the application source code?
Yes, under NDA. Contact us and we can share the application source with qualified customers. The cryptography library is public on GitHub and needs no NDA to review.
Can I import sessions from other tools?
Yes. One-click import from legacy terminal tools preserves your folder structure and session settings.
What does BYOK mean for AI?
Bring Your Own Key. You use your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or a local Ollama instance. We never see your prompts or store your data.
What does Enterprise add over Professional?
The NetStacks Controller — a server-side platform for teams that adds shared credential vaults, configuration templates, stack deployments, scheduled tasks, RBAC, audit logging, SSO, and the alerts / incidents / profiling-agents plugins. Professional is the right choice for individual network engineers; Controller is for organizations that need centralized management.
